The Lora Bay Community Association is seeking a professional and reliable Recreation Attendant to join our team in Thornbury.
The Recreation Attendant plays a key role in delivering an exceptional lifestyle experience at Lora Bay by executing daily and weekly community programming for members and residents. This highly interactive, resident-facing role is responsible for leading engaging activities, setting up events, and fostering meaningful connections that contribute to a vibrant and welcoming community atmosphere.
This is a full-time seasonal position starting in May through the end of October.
Key Responsibilities:
Programming Execution
- Lead and facilitate daily recreational programming including walking clubs, hiking groups, fitness/mobility classes, and social activities (cards, games, etc.)
- Assist with and support weekly programming such as patio socials, casual dining features, and live music events
- Assist with monthly and signature events including themed dinners, workshops, and community gatherings
- Ensure all programming is executed on time and in alignment with the scheduled calendar
Set Up & Operations
- Set up and prepare all programming spaces prior to events (equipment, seating, materials, signage).
- Reset and clean spaces following completion of activities.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of all recreation equipment and storage area.
- Assist with light operational duties related to programming execution.
Resident Engagement
- Actively engage with residents before, during, and after programming.
- Build relationships by learning residents names and preferences.
- Encourage participation and promote a welcoming, inclusive environment.
- Always provide a high level of hospitality and professionalism.
Program Promotion & Awareness
- Maintain strong knowledge of all scheduled programming, including times and locations.
- Promote upcoming events and activities to members in person.
- Assist in driving participation and awareness of programming offerings.
Communication
- Communicate effectively with residents, guests, and team members.
- Coordinate with Food & Beverage and other departments when required for events.
- Provide feedback to management regarding attendance, resident engagement, and program success.
Health & Safety
- Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe and responsible manner.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings and address any potential hazards.
- Follow all club policies and procedures related to safety and operations.
Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Outgoing, energetic, and confident personality.
- Ability to lead small groups and activities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Previous experience in hospitality, recreation, or customer service is considered an asset.
- Interest in fitness, social programming, or community engagement is preferred.
- Must be comfortable leading group activities and engaging residents in a social setting.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors and leading activities in varied weather.
- Certification in fitness instruction or group fitness classes is considered an asset but is not mandatory.
Work Arrangement:
- Combination of indoor and outdoor environments.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, wind, and rain.
- Work will take place across clubhouse, patio, lodges and outdoor community spaces.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to approximately 30–40 lbs).
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods.
- Ability to lead and participate in physical activities such as walking, light fitness, and recreational games.
- Bending, lifting, and movement required for setup and teardown of programming spaces.
Scheduling & Availability Requirements
- Schedule will vary based on programming calendar and resident demand.
- Weekday availability is required, with a strong focus on morning programming.
- Weekend availability is required to support community events and peak usage periods.
- Occasional evening shifts are required for events and social programming.
- This role requires consistent availability during weekday mornings and flexibility to work. evenings and weekends based on programing needs.
Compensation:
- Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
